The Michigan Civil Rights Commission has condemned the conduct of an assistant state attorney general accused of harassing the openly gay student assembly president at the University of Michigan.
The commission says in a Wednesday statement that Andrew Shirvell's "conduct should not be tolerated from anyone, let alone a public official responsible for representing all people equally."
Shirvell started a blog in April that regularly lambasted 21-year-old Chris Armstrong as a racist with a "radical homosexual agenda." Shirvell is on personal leave.
Armstrong this month requested a personal protection against Shirvell, claiming the 30-year-old lawyer frequently harassed him over a five-month period. An Oct. 25 hearing is set.
