A Macomb County judge has ordered competency and psychological testing for a woman accused of convincing her healthy 12-year-old son and others that the boy had cancer to collect thousands of dollars in donations.
The Detroit News reports Wednesday that Roseville District Court Judge Marco Santia postponed a preliminary examination for 47-year-old Carol Lynn Schnuphase.
Schnuphase is charged with charges of fraud and child abuse.
Authorities said she drugged her son, and shaved his hair and eyebrows so he appeared to have cancer. A prosecutor claimed she received $7,500 from a church fundraiser, in addition to other donations. The money was used to pay bills.
The boy has been placed in foster care.
Schnuphase's next court date is Dec. 15.
