Police are investigating a bomb threat that forced them to evacuate the Wisconsin state Capitol.

State Department of Administration spokeswoman Carla Vigue says 911 operators received the threat, and that the evacuation began around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Vigue says Capitol police officers searched the building in Madison for a suspicious man with a bag but found nothing. She says the investigation continues.

Vigue says workers were allowed back into the Capitol about 90 minutes after the evacuation began, but that full public access will not resume until Wednesday.

She says Gov. Jim Doyle was en route to Madison from an event in Oconomowoc when he was told of the threat. The governor went to his mansion not the Capitol.
