Someone broke into the car of Oregon's top law enforcement official and stole a briefcase containing his badge and a book of phone numbers for various law officers in the state.
The Oregonian reports the thief smashed a window of Attorney General John Kroger's locked vehicle early Tuesday. The car was parked in the driveway of Kroger's Portland home.
Kroger says the only thing stolen was his briefcase, which contained his badge and law enforcement credentials, along with a draft policy document on the prosecution of cases that involve civil and criminal charges.
It also contained some "confidential" information _ a book of phone numbers Kroger says he carries so he can reach sheriffs and prosecutors "at a moment's notice."
Kroger says there's been a series of car break-ins in his neighborhood and he doesn't think he was targeted.
