An Iraqi immigrant has been indicted in a hit-and-run accident that fatally injured his 20-year-old daughter and injured her boyfriend's mother.
Maricopa County prosecutors said Monday that 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki was charged by a grand jury with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident. He reportedly was upset with his daughter because she had become too Westernized.
Authorities say Almaleki ran down the two women with his Jeep on Oct. 20 as they walked across a parking lot in the Phoenix suburb of Peoria. Noor Faleh Alamleki died Nov. 2, but Amal Khalaf survived.
Almaleki fled the country but was located at a London airport and sent back to the U.S.
A call to his public defender wasn't immediately returned.
