A judge has set bail at $10 million for a Los Angeles police detective accused of killing her ex-boyfriend's wife in 1986.
The judge who set bail Friday says Stephanie Lazarus faces a possible life sentence and would almost certainly flee if given the chance.
Her attorney, Mark Overland, calls the bail amount ridiculous and says he'll appeal.
Lazarus, 49, is accused of beating and shooting Sherri Rae Rasmussen in Van Nuys. The 25-year police veteran was arrested in June. Investigators say DNA testing of saliva from a bite mark on the victim's arm linked Lazarus to the killing.
A judge ruled two weeks ago that Lazarus must stand trial for murder but he rejected two special-circumstance allegations _ making her ineligible for the death penalty.
