Police in the northwestern Louisiana city of Shreveport say a female student was shot on the grounds of a high school and a suspect was arrested.
Police say it happened at 8:10 a.m. Friday at Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport. Police Cpl. Bill Goodin said the victim was shot several times but was expected to survive. Authorities initially said the victim was 17 but later identified her as 18-year-old Tammie Spates. They said she identified her attacker.
Police said 28-year-old Tony Holden of Shreveport was booked with attempted second-degree murder.
Officials put the school on lockdown immediately after the shooting and held students in the gymnasium. Police said they believe the victim and suspect were romantically involved.
