A Los Angeles jury says a robber who ambushed and killed an armored car courier a decade ago should get life in prison without chance of parole.

The panel recommended the sentence Friday for Ramon Chavez. He'll be sentenced next week.

Chavez was convicted last week of first-degree murder with special circumstances.

Prosecutors say he shot 26-year-old armored car courier Eleazar Jaramillo in the back of the head at a Vernon store in January 1999.

Chavez, 47, already is serving a life sentence. He killed a bystander in 2000 during a shootout with an armored car guard at a Costco store in Van Nuys.

Chavez's older brother was previously convicted of both killings. Authorities say he was the getaway driver.
