A Washington state man has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison in the fatal shooting of his 6-year-old daughter.
Richard Peters of Marysville was convicted last month of first-degree manslaughter in the Nov. 16, 2008, death of Stormy Peters. She was shot between the eyes at the family home.
Prosecutors said the 40-year-old man was drunk when he had Stormy get him a loaded gun from a bedroom nightstand. Peters maintained the .45-caliber Colt discharged accidentally.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Michael Downes sentenced Peters on Tuesday, saying the shooting was preventable. Defense lawyer Karen Halverson says Peters plans to appeal his conviction.
