Rescuers have evacuated several shops in southeast Washington, D.C., over concerns that nearby buildings under construction might collapse because the ground is soaked from recent rain.

D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says construction work was under way at a row of buildings Friday when the walls started to crack and separate. No one has been injured.

Rescue crews have evacuated several nearby businesses as a precaution.
