A Southern California man has pleaded not guilty to unauthorized wearing of the Navy's highest medal and other military awards.
Thirty-nine-year-old Steven Burton entered his plea Thursday to the misdemeanor charge in U.S. District Court in Riverside.
Prosecutors say Burton, who was never in the military, was photographed wearing a Marine Corps uniform displaying the Navy Cross along with a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other medals.
A Navy commander attending her high school reunion noticed Burton and contacted the FBI.
Burton is free on $10,000 bond and must return to court for a Dec. 21 hearing.
