The Associated Press has hired Matt Cluney, a marketing executive with American Express Co., to help promote the AP's brand.
Cluney, 38, joins the AP as its director of marketing for the Americas. During his 13-year career at American Express, Cluney held various jobs marketing to consumers and small businesses. Cluney previously worked in marketing at finance software maker Intuit Inc.
In announcing Cluney's appointment Tuesday, the AP said he will be in charge of developing and implementing a marketing strategy for the company as it expands its video business and helps customers evolve in a digital age.
"Matt's expertise on the business and consumer sides working with prestige brands in the new realm of digital marketing, as well as through traditional channels, will guide our strategy to communicate the vision and the value of AP to our customers," said Ellen Hale, the AP's vice president for corporate communications and U.S. marketing.
Cluney will work with Julia Howe, who was recently named as the AP's director of marketing in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Cluney will be based in AP's New York headquarters. Howe works from London.
