BALTIMORE (BP) -- Jim Wells of the Missouri Baptist Convention will be nominated for a 13th term as registration secretary of the Southern Baptist Convention at the June 10-11 annual meeting in Baltimore.

Anthony Allen, president of Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, Mo., has announced plans to nominate Wells, the Missouri convention's strategic partners team leader. Wells was first elected at the 2002 annual meeting in St. Louis.

Wells is "deeply committed to the Lord Jesus Christ, to his local church, the Missouri Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention," Allen told Baptist Press. "Dr. Wells has proven his character and ability by serving 12 years as registration secretary of the SBC and continues to provide excellent and visionary leadership by enlisting the next generation in the registration process of the convention."

Prior to his current work with the Missouri Baptists, Wells served nearly 12 years as director of missions for the Tri County Baptist Association in southwest Missouri. He has served as a member of the SBC Executive Committee, president of the Missouri Baptist Convention directors of missions and as a leader in various Baptist associations.

Wells has been in ministry since his days as a student at Hannibal-LaGrange College in the late 1960s when he concurrently pastored two country churches. He was Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's 2004 national alumnus of the year.

He and his wife Judy are members of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo., and have a grown daughter and a granddaughter.
