Icelanders focus on trust in third election in 4 years

REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) — Icelanders are grappling with issues of trust as they head into the country's third election in four years on Saturday.

Scandals and the aftermath of the financial crisis have rocked the island's political establishment and may result in another group of untested candidates coming to power.

Icelanders go to the polls six weeks after the ruling coalition collapsed amid revelations that the prime minister's father backed an effort to aid the job prospects of a convicted pedophile.

Rapid turnover in the nation's parliament, the Althingi, has led to fatigue among voters. Political analysts say the election's most likely outcome is a coalition government led by Katrin Jakobsdottir of the Left Green Movement, who says she would emphasize stability and consensus decision-making.
