KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Deputies in East Tennessee fatally shot a man accused of firing a gun several times at a neighbor and in the air.
Knoxville Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk says Knox County deputies were called to a residential subdivision Tuesday evening on reports of shots fired and found a man armed with two guns.
He says a confrontation ensued, the man fired more shots and DeBusk says deputies returned fire "to protect their lives and the lives of the citizens in the area."
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2rPNu9h) that the suspect was pronounced dead at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. No deputies were injured.
Officials did not release the names or races of the people involved. The investigation is continuing.
