JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Florida say an officer heading to an emergency call fatally struck a man who ran in front of his cruiser.
Jacksonville Sheriff's officials tell news outlets that Officer T.L. James was heading to a call at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday when the accident occurred.
Officials say James didn't have his emergency lights on but was traveling behind a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue vehicle that had its lights activated. News outlets report the fire truck managed to avoid the man, who then stopped in the center lane before darting back across the road.
James has been with the sheriff's office for three years and is on administrative leave pending an investigation.
