BUMPASS, Va. (AP) — Authorities say a woman who shot at Virginia law enforcement officers and was seriously wounded when they returned fire has been charged with attempted murder.

Police say a Louisa County sheriff's deputy was responding to a domestic violence call Monday when 42-year-old Misty Dawn Shutts Norwood exited the home, fired at the deputy and went back inside.

Police say after the trooper arrived, the woman exited the home again and ignored commands to drop the weapon as she walked toward the woods. Police say Norwood then turned and fired shots at the deputy and trooper, who returned fire.

Police say Norwood has been charged with two counts of attempted capital murder.

Norwood remains hospitalized for serious injuries and a police spokesman said he doesn't know if she has an attorney.
