WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will travel to Turkey next week before attending a NATO meeting in Brussels on March 31, a senior State Department official said on Friday.
His talks in Ankara come as the U.S.-led coalition steps up its military campaign against Islamic State around the Syrian city of Raqqa. U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have already reached the entrance to the Tabqa dam on the southern side of the Euphrates.
After Turkey, Tillerson will fly to Brussels to attend his first meeting of NATO foreign ministers. The NATO meeting had been set for April 5-6 but it was rescheduled after Tillerson decided to attend a summit with China.
