South Korea indicts ex-presidential aide in scandal probe

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean prosecutors have reportedly indicted an ex-senior aide to impeached President Park Geun-hye in their investigation into the scandal that led to Park's downfall.

Yonhap news agency reported Sunday that prosecutors indicted Cho Won-dong, a former senior presidential secretary for economic affairs, for allegedly working with Park in an attempt to force the vice chairman of a Seoul-based conglomerate to quit.

On Friday, parliament passed an impeachment motion against Park, who is accused of colluding with her friend Choi Soon-sil to extort money and favors from companies and to give Choi sway over government decisions.

Yonhap said prosecutors also indicted Kim Chong, an ex-vice culture minister, on charges of colluding with Choi and her niece to force companies to donate money to a sports foundation established by the niece.
