ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Hundreds of people turned out Friday to honor a Colorado state trooper hit and killed by a truck while investigating a crash.
Members of law enforcement joined family and friends at the funeral of Trooper Cody Donahue in suburban Denver following a long procession. Donahue's sister asked everyone to cheer or applaud to show his widow and two young daughters how much love and support they had. The response lasted for over a minute.
Donahue was killed Nov. 25. He is the third member of the state patrol to be killed by a driver in 18 months.
His family issued a statement Thursday urging drivers to slow down and move over when they see emergency personnel stopped on the road. The statement says "there's just no good reason" that his daughters will grow up without their father.
