TAG: Correspondent Jeremy House reporting. The decline in the yen affected the trade balance, as it cost more in yen to import and boosted the value of exports when converted to yen.

VERBATIM: The data showed the deficit was $38 billion for the fiscal year that ended in March. The biggest trade deficits were in the Middle East, mainly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Australia and Indonesia. Japan had a trade surplus with the U.S. and some European countries. Annual exports to China declined for the first time in four years.

The Senate has dismissed all impeachment charges against President Biden’s Homeland Security secretary. The Republican-led House impeached Alejandro Mayorkas, charging him with refusing to comply with immigration law and for “breach of trust” for saying the border was secure. But Democrats who control the Senate argued that the articles were unconstitutional and ended the impeachment process without a trial. The top GOP senator said “history will not judge this moment well,” while the White House said the Senate rightly voted down, what it called, “this baseless impeachment.”

Evangelicals want action on immigration
VERBATIM: According to a new survey by LifeWay Research, the surge in illegal border crossings during the Biden administration is worrying Evangelical Christians. 80% want Congress to take action to stop the flow. Lifeway spokesman Scott McConnell says “The urgency continues to grow for Congress to act this year to improve laws around immigration.” The poll also finds that Evangelicals are concerned for the welfare of illegal aliens and want to share the gospel with them.
