COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A young man has pleaded guilty to a robbery that happened just before Ohio police fatally shot a 13-year-old boy who was with him.
Nineteen-year-old Demetrius Braxton pleaded guilty Tuesday. He's agreed to testify against others as part of a plea deal.
Braxton told Columbus police he was with a group including 13-year-old Tyre (ty-REE') King the night of the September shooting. He told The Columbus Dispatch newspaper Tyre had a BB gun that looked like a real firearm and wanted to rob someone.
Police say Tyre was shot after he ran from an officer and pulled out what appeared to be a gun.
A King family attorney says Tyre was running away and wasn't posing a threat.
The case will go to a grand jury following a police investigation to determine whether officers will face charges.
