HILLSBORO, Ohio (AP) — Jury selection is underway for the trial of an Ohio city's second-term mayor who's also a veteran standup comedian.
Retired Summit County Common Pleas Judge Patricia Ann Cosgrove told the initial group of some 40 potential jurors Monday that knowing Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings or knowing about the case wouldn't automatically disqualify them from serving.
The Republican mayor is accused of official misconduct and faces four felony counts.
Hastings' attorney has blasted the accusation that he falsified his residency by pointing out that Ohio's attorney general already investigated the matter in 2013. He says other charges are misleading.
Cosgrove is presiding after a Highland County judge recused himself.
Hillsboro has about 6,600 residents and is located about 60 miles east of Cincinnati.
