Parents of man fatally shot by LAPD officers settle lawsuit

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The parents of a 25-year-old man fatally shot by Los Angeles police officers two years ago have settled their lawsuit with the city.

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday (http://lat.ms/2faDq7z) that the family of Ezell Ford and the city reached the tentative settlement Oct. 21 in the wrongful death and state civil rights suit. The terms were not disclosed.

An attorney for the Ford family says the deal needs approval by the City Council.

Ford was killed in August 2014 after police say he knocked an officer to the ground and tried to grab his gun.

The police commission found that Officer Sharlton Wampler was unjustified in shooting Ford and that Officer Antonio Villegas was wrong to draw his weapon but acted appropriately in firing it because he believed Wampler's life was in danger.
