ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors have rested their case against a soldier accused of killing his then-14-year-old girlfriend's mother without calling the girl as a witness.

The Morning Call of Allentown reported (http://bit.ly/2b9q8pN ) prosecutors wrapped up their case Thursday against Army Spc. Caleb Barnes, accused of stabbing Cheryl Silvonek in March 2015 in Pennsylvania.

Jamie Silvonek pleaded guilty in February and agreed to testify against Barnes. She's serving 35 years to life.

Jurors heard Barnes say during a phone call that he stabbed Cheryl Silvonek. Silvonek had forbidden Jamie from dating the then-20-year-old Barnes.

Barnes, from El Paso, Texas, blamed Jamie Silvonek for the murder.

Investigators have said they recovered deleted text messages between her and Barnes in which the teen was plotting her mother's killing, including one that read: "I want her gone."
