SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — An online magazine opinion piece attributed to California's lieutenant governor contains at least one paragraph that largely originally appeared on the website of the National Center for Lesbian Rights.
Several of Democratic Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's Twitter and Facebook posts from the last month also lack original citations.
The posts are about Republican presidential running mate Mike Pence's positions on lesbian and gay issues. They are not attributed to their original sources: Mother Jones, Vox and New York Magazine.
Newsom is a candidate for governor in 2018 and a prolific social media user.
His spokesman, Jason Kinney, says the posts were clearly formatted in common online practice to show the material came from another source. But he says in a "post Melania (Trump)-world," he'll be more hypersensitive about giving credit and citing attribution in the future.
