PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — A retired judge says a suburban Detroit judge who sent three siblings to juvenile detention in a hostile custody case committed several acts of judicial misconduct.
Daniel Ryan, appointed as a special master, sharply criticized Oakland County Judge Lisa Gorcyca. He says she should have consulted "the owner's manual" before finding the children in contempt and locking them up for not having lunch with their estranged dad a year ago.
Ryan also found that Gorcyca made a false statement during a subsequent investigation by the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission, a watchdog agency. His report was released Friday, a month after holding a two-day hearing.
Any punishment will be up to the Michigan Supreme Court. Gorcyca denies any misconduct. About 200 Detroit-area lawyers have signed a letter supporting her.
