(Reuters) - Police were responding to a shooting in downtown Denver on Tuesday afternoon and said victims were being transported to area hospitals.
The Denver Police Department on its Twitter account urged people to shelter in place, calling the area near the University of Colorado Denver campus an "active crime scene." Police said they were shutting down streets in the vicinity.
"Shots fired at 15th & Wynkoop. Victims being transported to area hospital," the department said.
The department said around 2:45 p.m. that officers were responding to reports of a man with a gun and that there was a heavy police presence in the area. The department also tweeted that the location of the suspect was not known.
Further details were not immediately available.
