BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is scheduled to speak in Birmingham, Alabama, as part of a conference on civil rights and law enforcement.

FBI Director James Comey is listed as the guest speaker Wednesday for the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute's conference titled "Race and Law Enforcement: It's More Than Just Black and White."

Comey is scheduled to speak at the 16th Street Baptist Church, where four girls were killed in a 1963 bomb blast carried out by white supremacists, and at the nearby civil rights institute.

Special agent in charge of the FBI's Birmingham field office, Roger Staton, said in a statement that communicating "with a special emphasis on listening" is a vital part of ongoing discussions on race and law enforcement in America.
