JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Police say an officer shot and killed a man during a shootout outside Atlanta.
Clayton County Police Chief Michael Register says the man died Monday night, after what began as a domestic dispute in the county, just south of the city.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton identified the dead man in a written statement as 23-year-old Jabril Robinson.
Register tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (on-ajc.com/1ThHGeK) that Robinson ran from police responding to the dispute, tried to force his way inside a home and then began shooting at officers, who returned fire.
Dutton said an autopsy was planned for Tuesday.
The officer's name wasn't released, and further details about the suspect weren't immediately available.
