PARIS (AP) — The Paris city council has approved a series of proposals aimed at transforming the French capital as part of its bid to host the 2024 Olympics.
The development of a cycling lane linking the proposed Olympic sites and the cleaning up of the river Seine, which Mayor Anne Hidalgo wants to make safe for swimming, are among the 43 proposals adopted on Tuesday.
Hidalgo says the Olympic bid "is a fantastic opportunity for Paris to advance its sporting infrastructure but also to build a sustainable, creative and vibrant global city."
Paris is competing against Budapest, Rome and Los Angeles. The International Olympic Committee will choose the host in September 2017.
Long-distance swimming and a leg of the triathlon could be staged in the Seine if the Paris bid is successful.
