RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian news reports say the rapporteur of an impeachment commission in the lower house of Congress will recommend that Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff be impeached.
The Folha de S. Paulo newspaper says Jovair Arantes makes the recommendation in his nearly 200-page report, which he's expected to present before the 65-member commission on Wednesday.
Rousseff is facing impeachment over allegations she violated fiscal laws. She vehemently denies having committed any crime and says attempts to oust her amount to a coup.
The commission is slated to vote on whether to adopt the commission's recommendations early next week.
The whole lower house is expected to vote later this month on whether to continue with impeachment proceedings.
If two-thirds of the 513 legislators vote for impeachment, the proceedings move forward in the Senate.
