MIAMI (AP) — A Miami-Dade police detective shot a 44-year-old man who drove toward officers during an attempted traffic stop.
Trejo Perez was in serious but stable condition when he was taken to a Miami hospital after the Monday night shooting.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Capote said in news release that officers approached the green Toyota Camry during the traffic stop but Perez refused to stop and his vehicle continued moving toward them.
The detective who fired the gun was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Capote says the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
She didn't say why the vehicle was stopped.
The news release says Perez is white. Both detectives involved in the traffic stop are black. Their names haven't been released.
No further details were immediately available.
