WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says two Pakistani employees of the U.S. consulate in the northern city of Peshawar have been killed in an explosion.
Kerry told an audience at the State Department on Tuesday that he had awakened to news that the pair had been killed with an unknown number of Pakistani troops when an improvised explosive device detonated while they were on a mission to eradicate drug field. Kerry said the Pakistani troops were guarding the mission. He lamented the deaths as senseless and denounced the perpetrators.
He did not provide details of the incident and other State Department officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
