TIMBUKTU, Mali (AP) — A car bomb exploded Friday outside a U.N. mission police station in northern Mali, killing at least one Malian soldier and wounding several others, authorities said.
Mission spokesman Olivier Salgado said there were few police at the camp in Timbuktu because they are moving the headquarters closer to the airport.
Malian Defense Minister Tieman Hubert Coulibaly said one soldier was killed and three others wounded. In addition, two civilians also were hurt.
Idrissa Dicko, who lives near the camp, said the ground shook, and his windows broke during his morning prayers.
Al-Qaida-linked fighters occupied Mali's north in 2012, but were pushed out of strongholds by French-led forces in 2013. Attacks in the region continue and have pushed further south.
