(Reuters) - Two New York police officers were shot on Thursday at a public housing project and are in stable condition, a police spokeswoman said.
The Housing Authority officers were taken to Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, she said.
WPIX-TV reported that the incident took place at the Melrose Houses when responding officers found a seventh-floor shootout under way.
One officer was grazed in the head and the second was shot in the leg. Police are searching for at least one suspect, the station said.
More than 100 police officers were on the scene where the shooting occurred, WPIX-TV said.
