BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore police have identified the officer and suspect involved in a shootout that left the suspect dead and office wounded in Northwest Baltimore.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Ryan Quinn Martin and the officer as five-year veteran Thomas Young.
A second officer, Duane Weston, was also at the scene but was uninjured. He's a 10-year department veteran.
Spokesman T.J. Smith said Young was shot three times, once in the calf and twice in the thigh.
Smith says Young and Weston were conducting an investigation on Reisterstown Road about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday when they spotted Martin, who was not the subject of the search, with a gun. Smith said Martin fired, striking Young, and both officers returned fire.
Smith said Martin did not have a permit for the gun.
