AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say deputies fatally shot a man after he pointed a gun at a woman inside a South Carolina home and refused to drop the weapon.
Capt. Nick Gallam of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the home Wednesday night after a domestic dispute call but left when the scene appeared under control.
Gallam told local media the deputies then heard shots fired and re-entered the home. He says they found the man pointing a gun at a female victim.
Gallam says the officers ordered the man to drop the weapon and shot him when he didn't comply.
The Aiken Standard reports at least three deputies were involved. The woman was not hurt.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
