NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. presidential contender Hillary Clinton on Friday won the endorsement of the AFSCME labor union, which has more than 1.6 million members, in her quest to win the Democratic nomination for the November 2016 election.

The endorsement of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees adds a significant boost to Clinton's efforts to woo the labor movement as she seeks to build a coalition within her party and solidify her bid for the White House.

AFSCME includes public service employees in a range of jobs, from nurses to sanitation workers and more.
