DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — A lawyer for the family of an unarmed naked man fatally shot by an Atlanta area police officer says the case is to be presented to a grand jury.
DeKalb County police Officer Robert Olsen shot Anthony Hill on March 9 while responding to a call of a man behaving erratically outside a suburban Atlanta apartment complex.
The DeKalb County district attorney's office has said cases involving shootings by officers are presented to a grand jury for civil review and the jury makes a recommendation as to whether they should be considered for criminal prosecution.
Chris Chestnut is a lawyer for Hill's mother. He said District Attorney Robert James invited his client, Carolyn Giummo, to observe the grand jury proceeding Thursday. Giummo said she wants the officer indicted.
