Suspect accused of shooting at officers undergoes surgery

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A man who police say fired at officers in the parking lot of a northeastern Pennsylvania shopping center is recovering from surgery after being wounded by police.

Trooper Ed Urban said Sunday that it may be a couple days before 31-year-old Scott Lee Sargent, of Shenandoah, is arraigned on charges that include trying to kill law enforcement officers.

Urban says investigators are getting more information about a possible motive, but he isn't releasing those details yet.

Police say Sargent fired at the officers who responded to 911 calls about gunfire outside a Wal-Mart, where several vehicles were struck by bullets on Saturday.

Sargent is being guarded around the clock until he's healthy enough to be taken to a judge for arraignment and to have bail set.

Nobody else was injured.
