NEW YORK (Reuters) - Motorists logged 283.7 billion miles on U.S. roadways in July, a 4.2 percent increase from the same month last year, according to federal data released Friday, extending a resurgence in traffic volumes that has helped buoy gasoline demand.

Overall, motorists have driven 3.6 percent more miles this year over last, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
