MONDAY: Commerce Department releases personal income and spending for August, 8:30 a.m.; National Association of Realtors releases pending home sales index for August, 10 a.m.

TUESDAY: Standard & Poor's releases S&P/Case-Shiller index of home prices for July, 9 a.m.; The Conference Board releases the Consumer Confidence Index for September, 10 a.m.

WEDNESDAY: Labor Department releases Consumer Price Index for August, 8:30 a.m.; National Association of Home Builders releases housing market index for September, 10 a.m.; Federal Reserve policymakers begin a two-day meeting to set interest rates.

THURSDAY: Labor Department releases weekly jobless claims, 8:30 a.m.; Freddie Mac, the mortgage company, releases weekly mortgage rates, 10 a.m.; Institute for Supply Management releases its manufacturing index for September, 10 a.m.; Commerce Department releases construction spending for August, 10 a.m.

FRIDAY: Labor Department releases employment data for September, 8:30 a.m.; Commerce Department releases factory orders for August, 10 a.m.

SATURDAY: No events of note.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

President Barack Obama addresses the U.N. General Assembly, holds meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and hosts a summit on peacekeeping with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other leaders. Secretary of State John Kerry holds meetings at the United Nations through the week.

Washington — Evening budget vote expected in the Senate.
