(Reuters) - The U.S Food and Drug Administration ordered R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings Inc to stop sales of some of its top cigarette brands as they do not meet the regulator's guidelines.
Four of the company's brands - Camel Crush Bold, Pall Mall Deep Set Recessed Filter, Pall Mall Deep Set Recessed Filter Menthol and Vantage Tech 13 - can no longer be distributed, the FDA said in a statement on Tuesday.
The regulator said these brands were not substantially equivalent to their respective "predicate products" that were marketed in 2007. (http://1.usa.gov/1Nuim58)
According to the FDA, products that are not equivalent to their respective "predicate products" are considered to be adulterated.
Reynolds was not immediately available for comment.
