SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Louisiana police say a 28-year-old man was killed after shooting at an officer during a chase and brandishing a handgun at officers when the chase ended.
He's identified as Mohamed Ibrahim of Shreveport.
A police news release says officers from Shreveport, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office and the Centenary College police department fired at Ibrahim on Sunday.
Authorities say three Shreveport officers and one sheriff's deputy are on administrative leave during the investigation.
Steven Almeda, who lives in the area, tells The Times (http://bit.ly/1K0zLNi ) he thinks at least 30 rounds were fired. He says it sounded like a string of firecrackers going off.
Ibrahim's father, Hassan Ibrahim, and brother, Ahmad Ibrahim, tell KTBS-TV (http://bit.ly/1g6gfY9 ) Ibrahim had been hospitalized for schizophrenia and had delusions people wanted to kill him.
