UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. political chief is saying the Syrian government committed a war crime with its airstrikes on the Damascus suburb of Douma that killed some 100 people.

Jeffrey Feltman's prepared text for his briefing to the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday said Sunday's attack "would be yet one more war crime for which those responsible must be held accountable."

When he spoke to the council, however, he said not "war crimes" but simply "crimes."

The attack was one of the deadliest in Syria's four-year-old war.

The Security Council was expected to discuss the attack Wednesday.

Syria has accused U.N. special envoy Staffan de Mistura of bias after he condemned the government air raids on Douma and called them "unacceptable under any circumstances."
