(Reuters) - A trooper was shot at on Saturday morning when he pulled over to help the driver of a broken down vehicle along highway in northern Florida, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol trooper was uninjured when an unidentified man fired several rounds from a handgun along Interstate 75 in Micanopy, Florida, 15 miles (24 km) south of Gainesville, the Alachua County Sheriff said.

The highway was shut down as police searched for the shooter who fled into the woods. The suspect has been contained in a perimeter that was set up near the highway, the sheriff said.
