PRA LOUP, France (Reuters) - American Tejay van Garderen of the BMC Racing team pulled out of the Tour de France during the 17th stage on Wednesday.

Van Garderen, who was third overall, was apparently sick, having visited the medical car several times after trailing a select group of riders featuring overall leader Chris Froome early on. He stepped off his bike with about 73km of the stage left.
