(Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday said it had vacated some convictions of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was charged with attempted extortion from campaign contributors, wire fraud and other crimes.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit said some convictions were affirmed, and Blagojevich was "not entitled to be released" pending further court proceedings.

In March 2012, Blagojevich began serving a 14-year sentence in federal prison.
