(Reuters) - A police officer was shot on Thursday and Chattanooga State Community College in Tennessee was placed on lockdown after a shooter fired at what appeared to be a military-related center, the school and media reports said.
"Horrific incident in our community," Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke wrote on his Twitter feed, saying more information on the shooting will soon come.
The school on its website said there was a shooting and added: "Everyone stay inside, close doors."
One police officer has been shot in the incident, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.
Cable TV news station CNN reported the shooting was at a naval reserve center but the U.S. Navy said in a tweet there was no shooting at the center.
